At Walia Charity Association in North America, we are a compassionate nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming lives. Founded in 2020 in Northern Virginia, our community has grown to encompass members across the United States and Canada, united by a shared vision.
Our Mission Statement is to provide vital support to the most vulnerable populations in Adiarkay, North Gondar Zone, Ethiopia. Specifically, we focus on empowering disadvantaged children, single parents, and senior adults, striving to break cycles of poverty and foster hope. Through collective efforts, we aim to create lasting change and improve the well-being of those we serve.
Walia Charity Association in North America was founded in the year 2020 by a group of dedicated individuals committed to supporting disadvantaged individuals of the community in the town of Adiarkay in the North Gondar zone, Ethiopia.
We began by providing essential food support to vulnerable senior families in Adiarkay, North Gondar Zone. Our name, “Walia,” honors the community’s inspiring resilience.
Over time, we expanded our programs to include:
War displacement outreach:
Through our war displacement outreach in 2022-2023, we assisted around 12,000 displaced children, women, and seniors with food donations in Debark, 80 kilometers from their hometown. Partnering with our Gondar branch, we provided vital aid to internally displaced persons over the past three years, helping mitigate the consequences of conflict and displacement.
North Gondar Drought Response Efforts:
During the devastating drought in2024 in North Gondar, our organization successfully reached and assisted approximately 7,000 individuals in dire need. We provided essential food aid, and our Gondar branch played a vital role in facilitating the transportation of these critical supplies. The response from the community was overwhelmingly grateful, with countless individuals expressing profound appreciation when we arrived with much-needed assistance
